A TRIBUTE TO THE BOSS, STEPHEN KESHI
They say that man is God to man. That God does not come down from His Heavenly stool to help man but uses his fellow man, through the direction of the Holy Spirit to lead man to the path of success in life.
For the greatest Nigerian-born coach ever, late Stephen Okechukwu Chinedu Keshi, that man came in the person of Group Captain Anthony Ikhazobh, now late. Group Captain Ikhazoboh was the Chairman of the Nigeria Football Association, NFA in 1984 when Keshi was playing for the sensational New Nigerian Bank Football Club of Benin, a club that took the Nigerian football scene by storm at the time.
The Super Eagles had an engagement and as usual, players were invited to camp from various clubs across the land with Keshi’s club providing a handful of them. While others reported, the players of NNB decided to remain in Benin to help their club in a local league game before reporting to the camp and thus failed to meet the deadline.
Their action, the NFA boss felt was unacceptable as he believed that national assignments should supersede that of clubs. In his view, if players are allowed to choose when they are to report to camp, then the camp will never be organised.
Nigerians were shocked when Ikhazoboh, a no nonsense Air force officer, wielded the big stick and banned Keshi and three of his team-mates, Henry Nwosu, Sunday Eboigbe and Bright Omokaro from playing for the national team as well as their club for six months.
That was the turning point for Keshi and Nigerian football. Not one to mull over his ban, Keshi, who was still brimming with his football talent, dusted his boots and headed to Cote d’Ivoire in 1985 where he joined Stade d’Abidjan. After a season, he moved camp to rival club, Africa Sports, the same club where another Super Eagles hero, late Rashidi Yekini also left his foot prints.
The Abidjan clubs, for which Keshi played a total of 35 matches (13 for Stade d’Abidjan and 22 for Africa Sports) and as a defender scored two goals each, were stepping stones for his dream trip to Europe. Fans of both clubs and Ivoriens in general will ever remember Keshi, who under a short spell, became captains, the same position he held at NNB and every other club he played as well as the senior national team.
His leadership qualities which he displayed all through his playing and coaching career is even buttressed by a mourning fan who spoke on a local radio in Lagos last week. According to the fan, Keshi was captain of their team back in the days as seven year olds playing on the streets.
Keshi from then opened the floodgate for Nigerian footballers seeking the proverbial greener pastures in foreign clubs with Rashidi Yekini and Henry Nwosu joining the Abidjan train later.
The Ilah-born footballer after just two seasons in Cote d’Ivoire journeyed to Europe and landed in Belgium to pitch tent with Lokeren, the same club his Super Eagles team-mate Samson Siasia also played for.
Other notable Super Eagles players who were drawn to Belgium after Keshi made his mark there included Sunday Oliseh, Austin Eguavoen, Peter Rufai and Etim Esin. Apart from Esin, Siasia, Oliseh, Rufai and Eguavoen, like Keshi, rose to become captains of the Eagles in their days.
Another co-incident of the Keshi magic on his colleagues is that his success in the Eagles have continued to rub off on them with Eguavoen, Siasia and recently Oliseh going on to also become coaches of the Super Eagles.
It will not be wrong to say that the enormous talent, dedication and discipline displayed by Keshi in the Belgian league caused football scouts all over Europe to turn their radar to Nigeria and Africa to recruit raw football talents that abound here, with the assistance of Keshi.
His abode became a trade post sort of, with Nigerian and African players going through him. That was how Ghanaian prodigy, Nii Odartey Lamptey found his way to Keshi and like he said while mourning the Nigerian hero, Keshi became many things to him, father, mentor, guarding angel, etc.
While speaking on a local radio in Accra, Ghana, Lamptey said, “”I stayed with him for a minimum of six months and he fed me on daily basis, encouraged me and all that.
He did a lot for me. My first contract I signed in Europe – Belgium he went with me and signed the contract for me. What he’s done for me I can’t pay him back. I appreciate him a lot.”
Keshi had the longest span of his club career with Anderlecht which he joined after Lokeren. He was there from 1987 to 1991 and had a total of 99 appearances, scoring 18 goals even as a central defender who wore his trademark number 4 jersey.
After he left Belgium, he went through RC Strasbourg in France and starred for other clubs including Sacremento Scorpions in the USA where he played with compatriot and Eagles team-mate Austin Eguavoen before he retired in 1998.
One attribute Keshi had and which often brought him headlong with the football authorities is standing up for his rights and that of his team-mates, especially in the area of their allowances and match bonuses. He believes players who do the most work should get better welfare than administrators who, often times, stay in cosy offices and apartments.
One of such occasions was shortly before the Confederations Cup in Brazil when he was accused of inciting the players to protest the non payment of their allowances. Another was before the second round match against France at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Nigerians still believe till date that the time spent in sharing their allowances which was taken to them in Brazil by then sports minister, Dr. Tammy Danagogo on the orders of the presidency, cost them that match.
Whatever people may say about Keshi, he remains the best thing that ever happened to Nigerian football. He was the first Eagles captain who led the team to qualify for the World Cup for the first time. He didn’t stop there. He is also on record as the first Nigerian coach to take the Eagles to the second round of the World Cup.
Another feather to his cap is being the first Nigerian coach to win the Africa Nations Cup. He also joined Egyptian, Mahmoud El-Gohary as the only two Africans who won the Nations Cup as a player and as a coach. Keshi did these in 1994 in Tunisia as a player and in South Africa in 2013 as a coach.
The 2013 victory remained dear to his heart till the day he died because, according to him, nobody, not even his employers, gave him any chance. But he believed in himself and gambled with the inclusion of rookies from the local league and went to South Africa and conquered Africa.
He was disappointed when, despite his historic feat at the Nations Cup, his employers toyed with the idea of replacing him with a foreign coach even while the event was still on. As a result, moments after he lifted the trophy in South Africa, he announced he was resigning as Eagles coach.
An embarrassed Federal Government had to wade in and made him rescind his decision, an action his employers swallowed with a deflated ego but never forgave him. They refused to renew his contract and created banana peels on his track after Dr Danagogo recalled him to tinker the Eagles on the 2015 Nations Cup qualifiers when the leadership of the NFF were embroiled in succession crisis.
Keshi saw the hand writing on the wall while playing a match against Sudan in Abuja. Despite winning that match, placard-carrying fans, apparently hired to do so, chanted songs against Keshi and pelted him with urine-filled ‘Pure’ water sachets. He took it in his stride and carried on until the final nail was hit after Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2015 Nations Cup following the 2-2 draw against South Africa in Uyo late 2014.
Keshi remains a legend and this shows in the records he amassed. In his football career, he played for 11 clubs across Africa, Europe and America in a space of close to 20 years. His total appearances for these clubs and country stand at 386 during which he scored a total of 51 goals. His most appearance was for Anderlecht, 99 times and 18 goals while he starred 64 times for the Eagles and scored 9 goals.
In the words of former Green Eagles icon and captain, Chief Segun Odegbami (MON), “Stephen Keshi, without question, stands out as one of the greatest Nigerian football heroes of all times. Nigeria must immortalise him in ways that will make him truly rest in perfect peace.”
Keshi ‘rebelled’ for many causes and if per chance he returns to this world, he would want to ‘rebel’ again so he could get banned, by another Ikhazoboh, if the Air Force officer who did it before can’t be found. This is because his rebellion in his first life brought fame and glory.

EFCC clears CCT Chairman, Umar of N10m bribery
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has cleared the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, Justice Dandali Umar, of any culpability in the N10 million bribery allegation leveled against him.
The clearance was formally conveyed by the EFCC to Justice Umar in a letter signed by the Secretary of the commission, Emmanuel Adegboyega Aremo.
The letter was addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The clearance, according to a document obtained by Vanguard, followed the inability of the commission to establish a prima facie evidence against Umar.
Umar was investigated by the anti-graft agency over allegation that he demanded N10 million bribe from a retired Customs officer, Rasheed Owolabi, who was said to have had issues with the CCT. He is said to have collected the sum of N1.8 million from Owolabi through the account of his Special Assistant, Ali Gambo Abdullahi.
However, the EFCC said that after investigating the case for sometime, it became clear that the whole allegation bordered in the realm of mere suspicion and that it would be difficult to charge the CCT judge to court based in the allegation.
The latest clearance letter was second to the one sent on March 5,2015 during President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

BREAKING: Buhari appoints Mahmud new INEC Chairman
The presidency has just announced the appointment of Mahmud Yakubu the new INEC Chairman. Details to come soon.
THIS TRUTH MUST BE TOLD - THE BIAFRA IRONY
The truth about the recent agitation for Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu must be told. Many people of the South East and South South agitating for Biafra today do so not basically because they entirely believe in the Biafra project but because they feel insecure in the present administration's political appointments, economic policies and utterances made by different Northern Leaders and the president himself.
The worst mistake been made by the Buhari government is the neglect of the cries from various quarters on the perceived marginalization of the South East and South South especially in the lopsided appointments made so far by Buhari.
The people feel threatened, they feel insecure, they feel marginalised, they feel unwanted, they feel frustrated, they feel caged and the only ray of hope they see is the brave and unsure assurance sold to them by the voice of Nnamdi Kanu on Radio Biafra.
Buhari may be neglecting these voices probably on advice from some egoistic persons but it is worthy to note that the termite slowly and consistently builds the termitarium to the wonders we see. The uprising seen in the last few days after the news of the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu should be a pointer to what can happen if Buhari fails to make haste while the sun shines. Buhari must as a matter of urgency seize being a Northern President to a Nigerian President who swore an oath to defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Nigerians are watching, Africa is watching, the world is watching. These cries, this agitation may lead to the making of a monster that maybe hard to tame. Now is the time to use diplomacy, now is the time to use the tools of democracy so that we don't reach the point where we must use guns.
Man by nature tends to move towards comfort. We are all Nigerians now but remaining a Nigerian depends on whether we perceive Nigeria to be our place of comfort. That depends largely on the leadership.

Buhari Never Told Me Why He Didn’t Appoint Me SGF – Onu
A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr. Ogbonaya Onu yesterday distanced himself from a social media broadcast saying that President Muhammadu Buhari had told him earlier that he would not be appointed as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and reasons why.
In a statement by his media aide in Abuja, Mr. Sunny Onyeukwu said that the broadcast also contained that Onu’s residence had become “a mecca of sorts” for those seeking patronage from him in anticipation of his appointment as SGF and lamented that soon after the announcement was made without his being appointed to serve in the exalted capacity, his residence became deserted.
The statement read, “For the avoidance of doubt, it has become important to state in strong terms that Dr. Onu never expressed the views credited to him in the Facebook broadcast as no such conversation ever took place between him and our respected Mr. President.
“He could not have, therefore, communicated a nonexistent conversation to another person, more so an unnamed individual on telephone. Accordingly, it is false, cheap and utterly in bad faith. Already, Dr. Onu has personally issued a rebuttal on the matter which has been circulated in the social media in a Press Statement dated August 30, 2015.
“However, it has become necessary to issue the foregoing clarification in view of ongoing efforts in some sections of the print and electronic media to further allude to the same phony Facebook broadcast without verifying the proof of its authenticity.
“Needless to add that such is capable of misleading the general public and by implication, injure the well-known integrity and honour which Dr. Onu holds sacred and guards jealously”.
It said that as one of the founding fathers of APC it is his conviction that nothing should be done to injure the rights of citizens to free speech, especially in a democracy.
“However, in the exercise of such rights, care and respect must be observed to ensure that it is done within the ambit of the law, guided by respect for the truth, good conscience and sincerity of purpose.
“It is hoped that in all circumstances, more so in a democracy, the truth should not be twisted to serve pre-determined ends nor should the rights of individuals be muzzled to score cheap political points.
“Finally, Dr. Onu reaffirms his faith in our democracy as the immutable vehicle of popular choice for a new Nigeria, where though tribe and tongue may differ, as brothers and sisters, united in the pursuit of a common destiny, we must continue to stand firm, resolute and together, “it said.

Two Igbo Governors Set To Join APC; The Names Will Shock You
Report just coming in, according to THE LEADERSHIP, is that the ranks of the All Progressives Congress APC is about to swell soon. The report give hints that three opposition governors are likely to join the ruling party any moment from now.
The governors fingered in the report are Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state and Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe state, both members of the Peoples Democratic Party and Willie Obiano of Anambra state, a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The governors are said to have willing allies in the APC who are reportedly helping them to perfect their defection plans to the ruling party behind the scenes.
While Okowa is said to be assisted by a former governor of his state and Edo state governor; Adams Oshiomhole, Dankwambo is said to be working with two un-named top APC chieftains.
For Obiano, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state and Senator Chris Ngige are reportedly his contacts in the APC. Obiano’s decision to decamp to the ruling party is because of the devastating blow his predecessor, Peter Obi’s move to the PDP, had on APGA in Anambra state.
Obi was said to have a firm grip of the party’s structure in the state and his defection practically rendered the party’s structures useless in the state.
A top chieftain of the APC who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the three governors have already concluded their plans to defect and are just waiting for their various election tribunals verdict on their elections.
Dankwambo is said to be eyeing a seat in the senate in 2019 and reportedly knows that his chances are very slim in the PDP because of the popularity of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He is also reportedly being encouraged by powerful APC leaders who are upset with former governor, Senator Danjuma Goje, because of his role in the emergence of Senate president, Bukola Saraki, against the wish of the party leadership.
The governor has allegedly been offered the party machinery if he moves to the APC in order to spite Goje. Though the state executives plans have been kept secret for a while now, sources say it is just a matter of time before they finally come out open with their plans.

Jonathan Fought Corruption In More Civilized Way Than Buhari – Falana
Femi Falana, a famous Lagos lawyer, has criticized President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption strategy. The Lagos lawyer while speaking on Channels TV programme said that “contrary to the general belief that former President closed his eyes to corruption, President Goodluck Jonathan did so much in the fight against corruption including the sack of three of his ministers for alleged graft.”
Falana added that Jonathan carried out the most positive loot recovery without making noise about it.
It should be noted that during the Jonathan’s tenure, the administration presented the Single Bank account for the country, saving billions.
Their electronic payroll payment system and the Bio-metric registration of federal personnel recognized 68,000 ghost workers and over 50,000 ghost pensioners.
The previous government also introduced the Single Contract Requisition system with a legislative oversight.
The cashless economy was the cause that “Ghana-Must-Go” vanished in the National Assembly and around the corridors of his government.

BREAKING: NFF sacks Keshi as Super Eagles coach
The Nigeria Football Federation has terminated the appointment of Stephen Keshi as Head Coach of the Senior National Football Team, Super Eagles.
A statement by the NFF Executive Committee on Saturday said this decision was made, “having thoroughly reviewed the reports/findings of the NFF Disciplinary Committee and NFF Technical and Development Committee, as well as having reviewed the actions and inactions of Mr. Stephen Keshi, in the performance of his duties as Super Eagles’ Head Coach, which we found to lack the required commitment to achieve the Federation’s objectives as set out in the Coach’s employment contract.”
The statement went further: “To this end and pursuant to the provisions of Clause 4.3 of the Employment Contract between Mr. Stephen Keshi and the NFF (The Contract) and the various clauses therein, the Nigeria Football Federation has decided to exercise its option to summarily terminate the employment contract of Mr. Stephen Keshi with the Federation with immediate effect.”
It added that the termination was “without prejudice to the settlement of any existing and due financial obligations between the NFF and Mr. Keshi.”
NFF 1st Vice President, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, speaking on behalf of the entire Executive Committee of NFF, assured Nigerians that the decision was not taken lightly or with any prejudice, but in the ultimate interest of Nigeria football. He thanked Mr. Keshi for his services to the country and wished him the very best in his future endeavours.
“In the interim, the Super Eagles’ team affairs will be jointly managed by Assistant Coach, Salisu Yusuf and the Technical Directorate of the NFF headed by Coach Shuaibu Amodu, until the Federation names in due course a new Head Coach, who, along with the NFF will chart a new direction for the Super Eagles to ensure credible participation in international competitions and assist in building a sustainable football culture for the country,” said Akinwunmi.

Former Flying Eagles Coach, John Obuh Takes over IfeanyiUba FC
Former Flying Eagles Coach, John Obuh, has been announced as new head coach of Glo Premier League side Ifeanyi Ubah FC and he will be assisted by German Jurgen Presse.
Both men worked together at the 2013 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Turkey, where Nigeria reached the knockout rounds.
Obuh who has been without a club since he parted ways with Enugu Rangers last season is taking over the Nnewi club from Bulgarian Mitko Dobrev. The Bulgarian guided the club to the top bracket of the Nigeria league.
Obuh’s appointment was announced to the players by the club proprietor himself after the team’s home defeat to visiting Wikki Tourists last Sunday. That defeat is believed to be the Bulgarian coach’s final straw that broke the camel’s back.
Expectations were high they will beat the Bauchi club to climb to the top of the league, but with the club owner watching from the stands after promising a hefty N500,000 bonus for every goal scored by his wards, “the new Chelsea” of Nigerian football crashed in front of their home fans.
FC Ifeanyiubah is currently in fifth position in the top flight.
Seriously? Cucumber sex ends up in the hospital.
See how a student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka who used a cucumber as a sex toy landed in trouble as the vegetable broke and got stuck in her.
This is a latest gist coming from Blackberry messenger is that a female student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, was so sex starved that she decided to use a huge cucumber as a sex toy to masturbate.
Unfortunately for her, the experiment turned out nasty as she ended up in the hospital after the vegetable broke and got stuck inside her.
According to the story, the girl had taken advantage of the absence of her roommates to have a quickie session and must have been carried away in the heat of the moment when the ‘veggie’ tool snapped in two and would not come out.
It was her screams that brought others into the room and found her bleeding profusely.
She was rushed to the school’s medical center and the doctors recommended a quick surgery to remove the cucumber but they had to get the permission of her parents.
But the girl sneaked out of the facility and has not been seen since then.

Ex-minister faults Buhari on empty treasury, says Jonathan left about $30bn
The immediate past Minister/Deputy Chairman National Planning Commission (NPC) Dr. Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, Tuesday faulted claims by President Muhammadu Buhari that his administration met an empty treasury.
Suleiman said the former administration as at May 29 left behind the sum of US$2billion, adding that the sum would have been higher if not the governors insistence on sharing the fund.
He warned that the former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan must not be criminalized and painted a plunderer and looter of the nation’s treasury before the generality of Nigerians.
The clarification was in response to the President’s statement during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja, where he was quoted to have said that his government met “virtually an empty treasury.”
President Buhari reportedly said that it was adding a disgrace that Nigeria cannot pay salaries of its workforce.
Expressing his dismay over the President’s statement, Sulaiman in a statement in Abuja described the report as “unscientific and unfair”, stressing that the immediate past administration “left behind close to US$30billion.”
He said, “Government can’t tell us that there is no Excess Crude Account(ECA), Sovereign Wealth Fund(SWF) or are we saying the Federal Inland Revenue Service(FIR) and related agencies had not in the last one month been generating revenue?
“Until they are able to prove they had no receipts from these government agencies in the last one month before Nigerians can now buy into Mr. President’s claims of an empty treasury.”
He recalled that under the Jonathan’s administration, Nigeria was rated the largest economy in Africa and 26th largest in the world, querying how come such a government would leave behind an empty treasury.
He said”Money made by government is meant to be spent, and this the immediate past administration did responsibly. Every government, even in the so-called western world, including the US which today remains one of the largest debtor nations in the world, government operates on deficit.
“Is it not on record that President Obama inherited US$3 triillion debt, a collapsed banking sector and mortgage industry, yet he never raised any alarm. None of these has happened in Nigeria under Jonathan.
“Under Jonathan, Nigeria became the largest Africa economy and 26th in the world amidst deadly security challenges and dwindling international prices of oil. In spite of all these, the FG never owed salary.
“Upon inception of Jonathan’s administration, it is on record that the price of oil at the global stage was over 100 dollars per barrel and at the close of the administration, it dropped to 46dollars. Yet, there wasn’t collapse of government and federal civil servants were paid as at when due.
“It will be misleading therefore for our respected President Muhammadu Buhari and indeed the ruling APC to claim to have met an empty treasury.”
He further reminded the new government that “aspiration to governance is a call of meeting and confronting challenges headlong. So, we urge the APC-led government to hit the ground running as promised Nigerians by confronting the challenges.
“We are not in doubt of the capability of Mr. President to do it. He should therefore get to business, put in place structures and personnel to redeem the pledges made to the Nigeria.”

MEND threatens renewed hostilities over high lawmaker's salaries
Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, has warned that it would resume hostilities if the 8th National Assembly failed to check the high salaries and allowances allotted to lawmakers at the detriment of other Nigerians.
Spokesperson of the group, Jomo Gbomo, in a statement, said:
“We have observed with disgust, the brazen disregard for the feelings of the change-seeking masses by very selfish members of the eighth National Assembly.
“If the lawmakers refuse to make the necessary adjustments needed to accommodate the needs of the masses and the Niger Delta region, it may lead to the resumption of hostilities and Nigerians should hold the eighth National Assembly responsible should that happen. Enough is enough.
“These wicked individuals appropriate to themselves huge and absurd salaries and allowances at the expense of the millions of hapless Nigerians who have not been paid for months their salaries, pensions and other due benefits they deserve.
“The Niger Delta region where the bulk of revenue that sustains the nation comes from, continues to suffer neglect, environmental degradation and lack, made worse by the very corrupt and visionless past government and its cronies, some of who still shamelessly parade themselves on national television and other media platforms as Niger Delta activists.”

SURPRISE: ‘remains’ of a missing son found in trunk of mother's car
The remains of 12 year old Quincy Jamar Davis (above) who went missing in 2004 was found in the booth of his mother’s car earlier this month in Virginia.
The remains were found in the trunk of 44 year old Tonya Slaton during a traffic stop on June 6th. She has now been charged her with concealment of a dead body.
The Virginia State Police held a press conference yesterday to share more details in the case and revealed that the office of the Medical Examiner confirmed the remains found are those of the woman’s biological son, Quincy.
“The last record of him is from 2004 when he was 12-years-old and a seventh grader at Virginia Beach Middle School. It’s incomprehensible that we have nothing else at this point for 11 years that’s why we’re asking the public if they have anything if they can tell us,” said Sgt. Stephan Vick with Virginia State Police.
Investigators also revealed that Slaton was in jail for two felony convictions from 2008 to 2010. It’s unknown what happened to Davis during that time.
“There are several family members, including another son, being interviewed right now. Investigators are speaking with other individuals involved, but as far as going into that, that’s part of the investigation,” Sgt Vick said
He also said a missing persons case was never filed.

Senate: Saraki, Lawan groups’ rift deepens
The crisis within the ruling All Progressives Congress took a new turn on Sunday with the Senator Ahmad Lawan group in the Senate accusing the Bukola Saraki group of plotting to make President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration fail.
“The election of a Peoples Democratic Party senator as deputy senate president is evidently a grand conspiracy to sabotage the Buhari government,” spokesperson for the pro – Lawan group, Senator Kabiru Marafa, said in an interview with one of our correspondents in Abuja.
Marafa argued that the inauguration of the 8th Senate and subsequent election of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, with 57 senators in attendance was an indication that the perpetrators of the act actively involved the management of the federal parliament.
While the APC had endorsed Lawan as its candidate for the senate presidency, Saraki defied the party and manoeuvred his way to clinch the post.
The senate president had teamed up with senators of his former party, the PDP, to assume power in an alliance that saw Ike Ekweremadu of the PDP becoming the deputy senate president.
Ekweremadu had defeated Ali Ndume of the APC by 54 votes to 22 votes.
Lawan loyalists in the Senate, under the Senate Unity Forum, said on Sunday that the election of Ekweremadu was a grand conspiracy to sabotage Buhari’s administration through the legislature. The Saraki supporters style themselves Like Minds Senators.
Both Lawan and Saraki groups had on Friday disagreed on how the principal officers of the Senate should be chosen.
While the Lawan group aligned with the position of the APC leaders that the party should choose the officers, the Saraki group insisted that the Senate officers should be picked at zonal levels.
The spokesman for the Lawan group also demanded the prosecution of the National Assembly Management for allegedly contributing to the plot.
Marafa said, “We are convinced that there is a general conspiracy in this country to sabotage the APC government, particularly the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. For God sake, why should Senator Bukola Saraki be declared as senate president with 57 votes while 51 other senators were disenfranchised.
“The management of the National Assembly knew that 109 Senators were being expected on the day of inauguration. Why did they not wait for the others to arrive before rushing to conduct election?”
Marafa argued that no opposition senator made any attempt to seek election into the majority position when the PDP had the majority in the senate in 2011, asking, “Why should somebody do it now? Is it because Muhammadu Buhari from the North is the President?”
He added, “People are asking why we did not go to court to challenge Ekweremadu’s election. Why should we bother ourselves to go to court when there is already a grand conspiracy to frustrate all our moves?
“The conspirators had hijacked the media and are using them to complicate issues even in the court of public opinion. Why should we go to court?
“The Senate standing rule that was reviewed overnight is another pointer to the fact that the inauguration of the Senate on June 9 and the election of Saraki/Ekweremadu was part of the planned conspiracy.
“That is a criminal conspiracy. Our standing rules were changed. Who changed them? Why were they changed? For what purpose and who ordered the change? Who brought ballot boxes inside the chamber on June 9?
“Those who brought in the ballot boxes were obviously privy to the grand conspiracy. The rule of division was adopted in 2011 when David Mark contested election. People’s names were being called and each person would stand up and say who they want to vote for.
“But on June 9, boxes were brought into the chamber. Who brought them? Who changed our rule? President Buhari should prosecute the perpetrators of the criminal act because that was corruption”
However, a member of the Like Minds Senators, Rafiu Ibrahim,on Sunday denied allegations of conspiracy against the government of President Buhari with the election of Ekweremadu.
He said, “We (Pro- Saraki group) campaigned across the party lines because some APC senators already had their candidate.
“However, when members of the Senate Unity Forum were not around in the chamber to vote, the PDP seized the opportunity to contest and Ekweremadu, being a two-term senate president, used his goodwill among the senators to score 54 votes across the APC and the PDP.
“There was no case of conspiracy; there was no form of pact. In fact members of the Senate Unity Forum should be held responsible for the emergence of Ekweremadu as deputy senate president.
“If they had not absconded on the day of inauguration, an APC senator would have emerged just like what happened in the House of Representatives.
“It is not correct to say that the election of Ekweremadu was part of a design to make President Buhari’s administration to fail. Rather, the Saraki leadership in the Senate would ensure the success of President Buhari’s programmes and policies and he had started work on it already.”
Meanwhile, there were insinuations on Sunday that Buhari was angry with Saraki over Ekweremadu’s emergence as his deputy.
“Buhari has not spoken with Saraki since the incident happened on June 9 and he had rebuffed all attempts to contact him. Don’t forget that the senate president also had issues with the Vice – President, Yemi Osinbajo, for using a derogatory language on him”
But Ibrahim denied the insinuations, which he described it as a rumour.
He said, “It is not correct to say that the President was avoiding Saraki. The senate president flew to Ilorin on Friday with the presidential jet. If Buhari is angry with him, will he release the jet in the Presidential fleet?
“There is no crisis between the President and the senate president. As a matter of fact, Senator Saraki has since settled down and has started working.”
In the House of Representatives, there were indications that the former Majority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, will keep the same post in the House.
The APC is insisting that Gbajabiamila, the party’s choice for the House speakership but who lost to Yakubu Dogara, should be made the Majority Leader, The PUNCH learnt in Abuja.
The House will resume sitting on Tuesday (tomorrow) after members took a two-week recess after inauguration on June 9.
The party also reportedly gave the South-South the position of Deputy House Leader.
Findings indicated that the national leadership of the party took the decisions at its meeting held in Abuja last week.
Checks by our correspondents revealed that a move by the APC to anoint Gbajabiamila as the Majority Leader of the House a few days after he lost the speakership contest was opposed by North-West lawmakers.
The zone had already positioned a lawmaker from Kano State, Mr. Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, for the position.
“Besides the opposition from the North-West members, there was also the feeling within the Dogara camp that having Gbajabiamia as the Majority Leader could place the speaker under much pressure.
“But, we have gone beyond that stage now. The party has taken a decision that Gbajabiamila should be the majority leader. It has also been decided that Mr. Pally Iriase should be the deputy House leader,” a National Assembly official told one of our correspondents on Sunday.
Iriase, an APC lawmaker from Edo State, had also made a bid for the speakership, but later dropped out of the race to support Gbajabiamila.
A second source claimed that it was Ado-Doguwa and not Iriase that the party agreed to be Gbajabiamila’s deputy.
“That is exactly what the party is proposing (Gbajabiamila/Ado-Doguwa); all things being equal.
“I guess by Thursday, Friday this week, everything would have been spelt out,” the second source stated.
However, the National Working Committee of the APC has been scheduled to meet in Abuja on Monday (today) to, among others, deliberate on peace proposal
OMG! See the Nollywood Actress caught Stealing Again (photos)
This is a sad story of Nollywood actress, Yetunde Akilapa who has been branded a thief due to a strange voice she claims pushes her to steal. I think this is when we need a prolific pastor to step out and help this young lady. Just months after she was almost beaten to death by a mob in Magodo for finding a way into a man’s flat with the help of a master key, Yetunde has once again been disgraced at Yaba where she has decided to go and learn makeup to put body and soul together…Read below for more details:
The young lady who is popular for the bad name-thief, decided to steal from her boss, the lady who teaches her makeup, who just stocked her shop with iphones, laptops and other gadgets she newly brought into the country. At the close of day, everybody went home, but Yetunde came back later at
night with a master key. She gained entrance into the store and took away some iphones, ipads and laptops before someone spotted her. She was accosted and later arrested but as usual, she blamed it on the devil and the strange voice she usually hears.
The shop owner who was called later rushed to the scene, called in the police who whisked her away. But two days after, Yetunde was released which made the lady upset. She then called in another set of police men who have now re-arrested her. She’s in custody waiting to be charged to court.
See previous photos of her act in January, 2014...
Her sister, Bose Akilapa who is so upset about her sister’s dilemma, said their mother is behind Yetunde’s misfortune because she once cursed her. Angry Bose is said to have gone to call her mother names asking her to reverse the curse and in-between the argument she tore her mother’s clothes. We pray God takes away whatever it is from her. Yetunde only recently bought a Toyota Matrix car.
