IGP barns checkpoints, defaulters face arrest

Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Dan Bature, has ordered the immediate arrest and prosecution of any policeman involved in mounting roadblocks anywhere in the state. He gave the order in compliance with the directive of the new Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase that no road block of any kind should be mounted in any part of the country.
In furtherance of that Bature has set up a monitoring committee made up of detectives to arrest any policeman caught mounting roadblocks to extort money from Nigerians.

Ahmad Muhammad, the Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer, stated that, officers and men of the command have been warned to strictly adhere to the directives of the IGP to curb corruption in the force and rebrand the police.

“Crack teams have set up to ensure strict compliance with the directives of the new IGP and officers and men have been warned that anybody caught mounting roadblocks would be arrested,” Muhammad said.
